Finding yourself unemployed after turning 50 can be stressful. The public employment service steps in with targeted help for individuals over 52 who do not yet receive contribution benefits. In these cases, a monthly allowance of 480 euros may be available until an eligible pension begins, provided they remain active in their job search or until employment is secured.
This program is designed to support a demographic that often finds it challenging to stay employed due to age-related factors. The Ministry of Labor sets certain conditions to access this aid. Foremost among them is the requirement that the beneficiary actively seeks work. The ministry also cautions that turning down a job offer or a training opportunity without a valid reason can lead to penalties, administered through SEPE.

In order to receive this assistance, beneficiaries must meet a series of obligations set by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. The key condition is active job seeking. SEPE also notes that sanctions may be imposed for rejecting a job offer or a training course aimed at improving employability without a justified reason. The associated sanctions include the following:
- Three-month suspension of aid in cases of first noncompliance
- Six-month suspension for repeated offenses
- Complete loss of the right to subsidy if there is a third unjustified rejection of employment or a training course
Subsidy-compatible help for people over 52 that you don’t know about
Recipients of this assistance must also demonstrate that they do not earn more than 75% of the minimum interprofessional wage (SMI). Another ongoing obligation is to file an annual income statement with the tax authorities. The income tax return must be submitted after 12 months have passed since the entitlement to the subsidy began or after each 12-month period following the last renewal. Failure to file on time can result in deductions from payments. (Source: Ministry of Labor and Social Economy)
