The events unfolded shortly after 19:00 on the Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence at a residence located at 7 Colonia Erillas Street in the Nueva Numancia region. The attacker phoned 112, reporting that he had killed his wife. Municipal and national police units responded promptly, arriving to discover that the entrance door of the building had been forced open.

Inside the apartment, the man opened the door to the living area where officers found his wife lying on her back. She showed signs of cardiorespiratory distress and asphyxia. Emergency responders immediately began resuscitation efforts, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, to stabilize her condition.

One of the responding officers applied a defibrillator, and hospital teams from Summa-112 joined the scene to provide medical care. The woman was transported to Gregorio Marañón Hospital, where she arrived in a critical condition. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, she remained in extremely serious condition and passed away in the early hours of the following morning.

At the residence, police also attended to the couple’s two young children, aged 2 and 3. The children reported that their father had assaulted their mother and shouted at her during the incident. They were offered support from Summa psychologists and were later placed in the care of their maternal grandparents, who reside nearby, while investigations continued.

The arrested individual was identified as Antonio, a 42-year-old Spanish national who served as a soldier. He was taken into custody and transported to the Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM) of the Madrid Police Department, where the case is being treated as attempted homicide. The woman, named Leticia, is 37 and also a Spanish citizen. Investigators are reviewing prior reports of abuse or related incidents to determine any history that may be relevant to this case. The scene is part of ongoing inquiries by the UFAM and regional prosecutors to establish a clear account of the events and to determine appropriate charges and protections for any immediate family members affected by the incident.
