A violent episode unfolded in Zaragoza when a man stabbed his former partner and dragged him toward his bloodied home, an act noticed by a neighbor who did not hesitate to call the National Police for help. Although a duty court magistrate issued an immediate arrest and the suspect was jailed briefly, the case moved quickly. The following day a speedy trial was held for the assault, resulting in the 18-month sentence being commuted to community service.

Naturally, the magistrate presiding over Zaragoza’s No. 1 Court of Violence Against Women required him to fulfill social duties for nine months and imposed a three-year no-crime period meant to prevent new offenses. A further three-year ban restricted any approach or communication with the victim. The judge warned that noncompliance would send him back to Zuera prison.

In the negotiation between defense counsel Alberto Peiró and the prosecutor, a forensic report on the injuries was reviewed. The injuries themselves were not life-threatening in number, but experts from the Aragon Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences (Imlacfa) described facial trauma, a damaged nasal bridge, trauma with deformity in the left forearm, multiple ruptures, a three-centimeter wound on the left side, and several contusions. There was a four-centimeter cut on the parietal region and additional bruising on the left thigh.

The incident occurred in a residence in Zaragoza’s Oliver district on August 23. A communications ban and a 200-meter restraining order had been in effect since the preceding November. Yet the two were found together at 22:00 that night.

According to the facts established by the sentence, Óscar GS, aware that the prohibition of approach and communication was active, dragged Antonio Leyva along Calle to his home, entering the premises and continuing the assault with a knife and a wooden club across various parts of the body, including the head, trunk, and limbs.

When officers from the Aragon Police Department’s Citizens’ Security Brigade arrived, they identified the accused, confirmed the restraining orders, and observed the wounds on the victim, including a bloody nose and mouth. The suspect was immediately taken into custody at the scene as he struggled with the officers in an attempt to avoid arrest.

During the speedy trial, the charge centered on violating the protection order and causing injuries. The defendant accepted the accusation. The victim was represented by attorney Gabriel Diego Crespo who sought compensation for the injuries.
