In St. Petersburg, a three-year-old girl accidentally drank pills from a jar of vitamin D while her parents were away, prompting a hospital visit. A Telegram channel reported on the incident, noting that the information originated from Shot.

According to the publication, the child was at home with her 32-year-old mother. At some point, the mother briefly left the girl unattended. The young girl discovered a jar containing vitamin D tablets and consumed a portion of them.

The mother observed her daughter attempting to take vitamins but could not specify how many tablets had been ingested. Shortly afterward, the child became ill. An ambulance transported the girl to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with acute vitamin D poisoning.

The case is under investigation. It was reported that the family had not previously registered with the children’s branch before the incident.

Earlier reports mentioned another case involving a four-year-old boy in Moscow who swallowed his mother’s vitamins and required hospitalization.

Vitamin D poisoning in young children is a serious concern because even small amounts can lead to elevated calcium levels and potential long-term health effects if not treated promptly. Medical authorities emphasize the importance of securing medications and supplements out of reach of children and keeping containers in locked cabinets. Parents are advised to monitor any signs of illness after accidental ingestion, including tummy pain, vomiting, lethargy, or unusual thirst or urination, and to seek immediate medical attention if exposure is suspected.
