The balance of effects from the super typhoon known as Noru, locally called Karding, has continued to shift as authorities report rising casualties in the Philippines. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed that the fatal count has increased from five to eight since the storm’s impact intensified earlier in the week. Victims are predominantly from the provinces of Bulacan, Zambales, Batangas, and Quezon, which bore the brunt of the disaster’s force. Beyond the tragic losses, more than 60,000 people were displaced due to flooding and landslides following Noru’s passage across Luzon, according to national news coverage from GMA News.

Local officials also reported three additional disappearances in the eastern province of Camarines Norte. They estimated agricultural damage at roughly 160 million Philippine pesos, which is about 2.8 million euros, underscoring the storm’s substantial impact on farming communities and rural livelihoods.

Noru initially moved into the Philippines on a Sunday with sustained winds near 195 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 240 kilometers per hour. While the storm weakened as it pushed inland, the lingering rainfall and gusty winds continued to threaten communities. By Tuesday, Noru had moved away from the country, yet weather advisories warned that showers could persist in the coming days, keeping authorities vigilant for potential aftereffects such as floods and road washouts.
