Aid, subsidies, and other tax incentives

These incentives matter for anyone considering a switch to renewable energy at home. A national map has been created to show all active subsidies and aid across the country. While existing subsidies and current income deductions offer meaningful financial relief, finding the best way to finance solar installations and additional systems helps thousands access the benefits of self consumption.

Across Spain, except Cantabria and Galicia, municipalities with populations up to 5,000 and non urban areas, and small towns with populations up to 20,000, provide basic support covering twenty percent of total installation costs, up to a maximum of fifty percent.

Ayudas fiscales por instalar placas solares

Beyond autonomous grants, many Spanish municipalities offer IBI discounts to accelerate a shift toward a greener energy model.

Disparities exist between municipalities, but discounts typically range from 30 to 50 percent, as seen in Sevilla, Madrid, and Barcelona, with terms extending from three to five years.

Currently, about forty one percent of municipalities in Spain offer this type of IBI discount to support green upgrades.

ICIO tax relief

Installing solar panels can unlock reductions in the tax on installations, constructions, and works (ICIO), sometimes reaching up to 95 percent depending on the local government.

IRPF deduction

Residents who completed energy rehabilitation works on their homes before December 31, 2024, can apply for an IRPF deduction for solar installations.

To qualify for a 20 percent deduction, evidence must show a reduction in home heating and cooling demand after the panel installation by at least seven percent, or a thirty percent reduction for a forty percent deduction, or sixty percent for residents in a property owners community.

Several autonomous communities offer additional incentives.

Andalusia

This program covers forty percent of the total installation price up to three thousand euros and remains active until December 4, 2024.

Balearic Islands

The FOTOPAR2024 program remains active in the Balearics until December 31, 2024. Eligibility applies to both connected and standalone installations.

Amounts vary by installation type, including individual self consumption at 600 euros per kWp, collective self consumption at 710 euros per kWp, and batteries at 320 euros per kWh.

Catalonia

Residents of Catalonia who install solar panels at their primary or permanent residence can save up to forty percent of the installation cost, or up to three thousand euros.

To qualify, homes, cooperatives, or entities must achieve a seven percent reduction in annual energy demand for heating and cooling, or a minimum thirty percent reduction in primary non renewable energy consumption.

Barcelona residents can access the same aid but with a deadline extended to December 31, 2024.

Canaries

For individual homes the maximum grant is three thousand euros for capacity and a thousand for storage, totaling up to four thousand euros. For groups of owners and collective self consumption the maximum rises to fifteen thousand euros.

Galicia

New Galicia aid VI406E rewards aerothermal and solar installations in homes. The program promotes both energies and doubles daily savings, offering forty percent up to three thousand euros with a deadline of December 26, 2024.

Region of Murcia

Grants aim to improve energy efficiency in homes in Murcia. A forty percent incentive, up to three thousand euros, applies to installations completed after February 1, 2020 and up to seven thousand five hundred euros, with a deadline of July 31, 2024.

Basque Country

All installations in single family homes or community photovoltaic projects between January 1 and December 31, 2024 may receive up to four hundred sixty euros per kilowatt peak for solar panel installations.
