Arguments between the couple were frequent, with tensions rising and falling in their relationship. They were together at the moment, but after a heated argument this Sunday, a neighbor in Zaragoza witnessed a chilling turn. The man decided to stab his girlfriend to death. He was detained in the apartment they shared in the Delicias neighborhood.

This murder, the first reported in Zaragoza and the Aragon region this year, occurred at a residence on 273 Avenida Madrid around 10:00 a.m. Nearby residents reported hearing screams and alerted the High Police Headquarters Citizen Security Brigade in Aragon after the cries ceased unexpectedly. They could not anticipate that the sudden silence signaled the murder of 26-year-old Sliman Guiz, a man of Algerian origin, by the women involved in the moment they heard a voice from inside the apartment.

When officers entered, they found the suspect, Natalia C., 32, of Colombian descent, and the scene was marked by fatal injuries. Although only death was confirmed, authorities immediately searched the bathrooms leading to the dwelling. Minutes later, a kitchen knife was recovered, and the suspect is believed to have repeatedly stabbed the victim in vital areas. An autopsy conducted today at the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Science will determine the exact number of stab wounds and the causes of death.

Investigators from the murder group are examining the motive behind Natalia C.’s actions, noting that there are no current complaints of gender-based violence that would indicate she acted in self-defense. An important detail is that this incident was not an isolated argument; the tension was ongoing.

Earlier at 10:00 a.m., neighbors, alarmed by the ongoing quarrel, contacted the National Police, who responded with a routine call. A patrol arrived and described it as a couple’s argument with no visible injuries to either party and no obvious signs of danger inside the home, so they left. They could not anticipate that later that day colleagues would return to uncover a death.

The woman, detained on suspicion of murder, remained in custody at the Aragon Police Department on Monday while awaiting a statement from the Homicide Bureau. As is common in such cases, investigators are likely to request up to 72 hours of detention to present the case before the Court of Investigation No. 3 in Zaragoza, which was on duty Tuesday. The lead official in charge of the inquiry was designated as the presiding judge of case number 1.

Background

Although the arrested woman has no prior criminal record, she is involved in an open civil case stemming from a dispute last August over an incident that led to injuries and a riot.

The murder of Sliman Guiz marks the first crime in Zaragoza this year. The most recent crime previously occurred on San Miguel Street in December, when Antonio Giger Kaufmann, 83, of Argentine descent and Swiss nationality, allegedly beat his wife to death.

As hinted within the victim’s family circle, the woman in question reportedly contemplated disrupting a 30-year relationship that had deteriorated over time. They lived in a privately owned apartment, largely isolated from neighbors, and they did not share children. There were no prior complaints about the couple.
