custody
In early August, the Novelda Civil Guard Investigation Field initiated a case after receiving information about a robbery targeting a tobacconist in Monforte del Cid. Through thorough fieldwork and data gathering, investigators uncovered that two Spanish suspects, aged 31 and 32, played key roles in the attack. One carried out the robbery while the other handled surveillance and the transport of the stolen goods. Both individuals were known to have committed similar offenses in the past. The plan was split into distinct duties before the crime even began, reflecting a coordinated approach to the robbery break in.
After identifying the perpetrators, the officers focused on locating them. The suspects went to ground, aware of the evidence against them. One relocated to a country house in the Sierra de Crevillent area while the other kept to the road, spending each night in a different nearby town near Monforte del Cid. The vigilance paid off when, on September 2, both suspects were apprehended in Monforte del Cid and presented to the Novelda Guards Training Court, which ordered their release on injunctive relief pending further proceedings.
The security footage from the Monforte del Cid tobacconist captured the thief in the act, providing crucial evidence for the investigation. Information disclosed by investigators highlighted the role each suspect played and helped establish the sequence of events during the robbery.
Insurance agent arrested
On August 30, authorities received a report of a violent robbery alleged to have occurred on a Monforte del Cid street, reported by an employee of an insurance company. The individual claimed to have been assaulted by a man who took 2,600 euros from a cash collection tied to insurance policies. The Novelda Investigation District took charge of the inquiry, examining the details supplied and the surrounding circumstances. The analysis revealed that the supposed victim had staged the crime to obtain financial compensation under the claimed debt. In addition, evidence indicated the complainant also engaged in self harm in a bid to strengthen the credibility of the account.
On September 5, investigators conducted a formal interview at the Civil Guard offices in Novelda. After the complainant was examined, a violent robbery and related crime of deception were identified, leading to an arrest at the scene. The 50-year-old Spaniard, who had no prior police record for similar offenses, was placed in the custody of the Novelda Duty and Instruction Court, which ordered his release from formal accusations pending further legal actions.
The Civil Guard reiterates to the public that whenever a criminal act is reported, all appropriate steps will be taken to clarify the facts. If the investigation finds that a report was filed with false claims, prosecutors may pursue charges against the complainant.
