A five‑month‑old baby died this afternoon after a multiple‑vehicle incident in Lanzarote.
A vehicle struck at least eight people this afternoon at 6:27 p.m. local time in the municipality of Yaiza, in the Playa Blanca area.
According to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center 112 of the Canary Islands government, in addition to the newborn who passed away, two women are in grave condition and three others have moderate injuries.
The incident occurred on Archipiélago Avenue in the Playa Blanca district, in front of the Flamingo hotel.
For now the causes of the crash remain unknown, though the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium reports that at least two cars were involved in a collision.
The alert came just before 6:30 p.m. when 112 received a call from the hotel reporting that a car was plowing into people on a public road.
Ambulances, a helicopter, local police, and medical center staff were dispatched to the scene.
As information becomes available, authorities will provide updates on the investigation and any additional details about the injuries and circumstances of the incident. This report is based on statements from local emergency services and the hotel staff at the time of the accident.
