A two‑week program at the University of Alicante will provide participating students with training and mentoring from professionals at the Technological Competence Center (CCTA). The center, created in Sabadell with the support of the Banco Sabadell Foundation and the university, reaches its third edition this year. Both organizations report that the initiative is meeting its goals and poses a compelling challenge from the center that helps students build critical competencies and skills for their future careers.

Over the course of four months, students will collaborate on a project guided by technology professionals. In this edition, the program also includes mentors from Sabadell’s Alicante operations, broadening exposure to real‑world technology roles, core competencies, and professional skills. Upon completion, participants will have a stronger profile for master’s degree eligibility and potential internship opportunities during the 2023–24 academic year.

The program’s opening session occurred in a hybrid format, hosted at the CCTA facilities with attendees including Mireia Sempere, deputy director of the Higher Polytechnic School of the University of Alicante; Susana Soler, director of CCTA; and Christian Cortes, IT Manager at CCTA, along with mentors and mentees taking part in this edition.

It is important for the organizers to support university students as they transition toward the professional world. The mentoring program centers on improving accessibility and inclusivity in digital products and services. It emphasizes outreach to vulnerable groups and uses those interactions to strengthen student skills. Miguel Melek Soriano, who leads the methodologies and project management team at Banco Sabadell and serves as a CCTA mentor for the third time, notes that this year’s focus will reflect those aims.

During the session, mentees expressed strong appreciation for the program, describing it as an authentic professional experience that goes beyond what is typically covered in classrooms or found online.

social connectedness

Supporting programs like this aligns with the Banco Sabadell Foundation’s broader commitment to education and the cultivation of young talent. It also complements Sabadell Sustainable Commitment, an ESG framework that embeds environmental, social, and governance priorities into Banco Sabadell’s strategic approach. The initiative supports corporate volunteering and talent development, reinforcing the foundation’s role in building a more equitable and harmonious society.

Nearly 300 Catalan companies have established a presence in Alicante through the ongoing Process, a trend the foundation highlights as part of its regional engagement strategy. Since its inception in 1994, the Banco Sabadell Foundation has championed culture, arts, research, and education, while also coordinating several awards in fields such as biomedical research, science and engineering, economic research, and sustainability in maritime sectors.
