Despite the government’s efforts to prevent cost electricity bill fire continues in spain. Neither the VAT reduction (21% to 10%) nor the Iberian exemption (highest market price) helped citizens pay less in exchange for electricity. And to this situation now new tax no one counts, and that will hit the cost more than thought.
In the Adjustment Mechanism of Legislative Decree No. 10/2022 approved by the government, a measure to increase the final price of the electricity bill appears: ‘gas cap’, the chosen way to avoid the increase in the cost of this energy source. The problem is that this ‘gas ceiling’ must be financed by consumers and can represent more than 40% of the total electricity bill.
The rate cannot be changed until Europe makes a decision: it will apply to invoices issued from 15 June and will have a maximum duration of at least one year.
