The amount of aid and subsidies provided for people unemployment will rise from January 1, 2023. This has been put forward by the Government, which has drafted the General State Budgets and is now preparing to negotiate it with the parties in Congress. One of the measures included in the first version of the public accounts for the coming year is the update of the Multi-Impact Income Public Indicator (IPREMA scale by which various public benefits are calculated, such as unemployment benefits or minimum and maximum amounts of subsidies for people over 52. A total of 1.79 million unemployed will directly benefit from this increase.
Although originally the subsidy for seniors was calculated on the basis of the minimum inter-occupational salary (SMI), it has been driven by IPREM for more than a decade. And this indicator, in the framework of the negotiations between PSOE and United We Can, was finally decided to increase by 3.6% for the next year. As a result, this indicator is up from the current 579.02 Euro per month. 600 euros.
How will this affect the subsidy for the unemployed? This public transfer is calculated as a percentage of IPREM and if it rises, the subsidy increases. It is currently established by law that an unemployed person over the age of 52 is entitled to a monthly payment equivalent to 80% of IPREM. At present it will be 463.2 euros per month and from next year it will be 480 euros – provided the budgets continue. That is, it will increase by 16.8 euros.
Does it also affect tax benefits?
Yes, the increase in IPREM will also have a direct impact on the contributions received by the unemployed or ERTE. It is popularly known as ‘paro’. The final amount a SEPE enrollee will receive depends on their regulatory basis, which depends on their salary. However, there is a limited amount of benefits both above and below, and the maximum and minimum amounts are set by IPREM. If this indicator goes up, they go up too.
Currently, the minimum amount of assistance varies between: 540,41 and 722.8 Euros per month, depending on the number of dependent minors. And the maximum is between 1,182.16 and 1,519.92 euros. With the increase in IPREM, it will be between the maximum amounts. 560 and 749 Euros per month.
This increase in the scale of benefits will affect all current or future beneficiaries of the same right. There are currently 2.9 million unemployed across Spain, of whom 1.79 million (58%) receive SEPE assistance or subsidies. in total 850,551 people older unemployed receive contributions and the remaining subsidies for resettlement or agricultural income.
