Alexander Malkevich, head of the working group of the Civil Chamber of the Russian Federation on the fight against the spread of misinformation, public control and Internet security, appreciated the appeal of public figures to Roskomnadzor (RKN). Action against YouTube.
“At the moment, YouTube is one of the worst violators of Russian law. Some of the subversive material distributed on YouTube is clearly aimed at children.
Video hosting has already “caught” in this regard several times, when the platform, along with other Western online platforms, was used to summon minors to commit illegal acts, Malkevich said.
In his opinion, YouTube has become a full-fledged instrument of an aggressive information war against Russia.
“Video hosting does not remove, but promotes, fake, cruel and dangerous content designed to destabilize Russian society, including influencing the psyche of young users. Also, YouTube does not remove subversive material, despite RKN’s regulatory requirements, so dangerous content that may require the use of alcohol, drugs or violations of the law can easily fall into the sight of children. .
He added that YouTube is strictly obliged to comply with the laws of the Russian Federation.
“As long as YouTube operates on the territory of the Russian Federation and makes money on Russian users, including children, Russian law remains the law for it and must be strictly observed. The company is obliged to respect, observe and protect the rights and interests of Russian users. If a company does not remove subversive materials, does not self-regulate, and promotes frankly dangerous content, it should be liable under the laws of our country,” Malkevich said.
Earlier, the RF Demography Commission for the Protection of the Family, Children and Traditional Family Values sent an open call to the head of RKN, Andrey Lipov. The text of the document says that in the past two weeks members of the Public Chamber have received numerous requests from parents and key public bodies. Videos shown after children’s content are extremely worrying for the parent community. It is noted that after the videos designed for preschool and school viewers, materials that were frankly shocking and dangerous for the psychology of the child appeared in the recommendations.
The position of the main community is that when distributing audio-visual content in Russia, Google strictly adheres to ethical rules, as well as Russian laws regarding the prevention of the spread of destructive and shocking content.
