Scientists at Massachusetts General Hospital found that regular steam attacks lung tissue similar to chemical warfare gases, leading to poor airway patency. published research New England Journal of Medical Evidence.
Using microscopy, the doctors examined lung tissue samples from four patients who had been vaping for three to eight years. In all patients, they found signs of fibrosis (scarring) of the small airways in the same area of the lungs. Similar changes are observed in persons participating in military conflicts with the use of toxic gases. They also complained of shortness of breath and chest pain. Narrowing of the airways due to scarring may explain the breathing problems.
In patients who quit smoking, the lungs partially improved within one to four years. In addition, three out of four former conventional smokers had symptoms of emphysema. The same lung lesions in all four patients may indicate that they were due to vape smoking and not other causes.
