The story around Los Miami, crime gang operating in the 1990s Madrid and reigned in drug trafficking and extortion, and above all his boss’s engine, The beginning of David Ulloa’s new drama ‘El immortal’ Movistar+, It will be released on October 27.
“The challenge wasn’t to make the typical drug trafficker series, we already have a lot of them. We wanted to turn that around and focus more on the characters from the street. We wanted to reflect on what happened to them, see how they lived. relationships grow, how they solve their problems, and the family they’ll create later on” On Thursday, screenwriter Diego Sotelo announced on Vitoria television FesTVal.
The series, which will consist of eight 50-minute episodes, is a crime drama directed by Álex García as José Antonio, inspired by the life of the leader of the Los Miami gang. His name caused panic, and the “immortal” was the boss of them all.
“The hard part for me was creating a character who made very bad decisions without judging him. When I read the script, I was impressed by the speed, the emotion and the ability to narrate the scenes without stopping and nothing wasted.”
Although the real José Antonio is alive, García only met him one day on set, and the character wasn’t prepared with him. He told EFE that he documented himself by watching interviews and documentaries from that period: “Today, thanks to the internet, you can get an excellent X-ray of the character.” He practiced boxing every day for the fight scenes.
The creator of the series, José Manuel Lorenzo, wanted to emphasize this fiction. “this is not a ‘biopic’”, they just took real events and real characters and turned them into fiction.
For years L.Orenzo had heard stories and anecdotes about one of the most famous gangs in Madrid.but it wasn’t until he read Javier Negre’s article “Immortal” that his interest in the Los Miami leader awoke.
“The article made me want to know if this character was alive and inspired me to talk to him. I got in touch with him because I move very well in the underworld and we understood each other, he told me his story and he let me adapt but it wasn’t easy because it was so repetitive in his life. There were things,” he said.
The role of screenwriters Sotelo and David Moreno, who, in the words of Lorenzo and the rest of the team, “done an amazing job,” came into play here because although they had the advice of the real José Antonio, the rest invented it to “bring the plot to life”.
Moreno said, “We already know it didn’t happen to José Antonio to make it look right, but how would you act if it did?” We said, and he told us everything, and we wrote it.” Also, Marcel Borrás, the Rober in the series, told EFE that in the final days of filming, the leader of the group was present for filming.
Although there is an array containing “too much violence, sex and drugs”, García underlined that he also has “very bright” features. Traveling to Madrid in the 90s is very special and there are moments that give me goosebumps. “There will be historical moments like the Olympic games or the European Union in the background,” he said.
Singer Chanel has a minor secondary role in the series, but it’s “very intense”: “When we recorded, we didn’t know everything that was going to happen and we were very surprised when Eurovision took place. When it was attacked, they were all ‘Immortal’ We support her very much.”
Alongside García and Borrás, the series’ cast includes Teresa Riott, Emilio Palacios, María Hervás, Jon Kortajarena, Jason Day, and Claudia Pineda.
