“Ten electric scooter fires have been recorded. One person was killed and six others were injured. There was no sad outcome in the past year,” he said.
The Ministry of Emergencies explained that the main causes of scooter fires are improper use, including mechanical damage of lithium-ion batteries included in the set of electrical appliances. Also, events occur due to short circuit and overcharging.
The press service stressed that safety rules must be observed when using electric scooters.
“Before you start using an electric scooter, you should carefully study the manufacturer’s instructions, paying particular attention to the rules for charging and operating batteries,” the Ministry of Emergencies said.
It is also necessary to take precautions when storing scooters: it is better not to keep the devices near flammable materials and furniture. In the event of a fire, you should immediately call “112” and “101” and inform the fire department.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations noted that in the event of a fire, you should immediately try to extinguish the flame with a fire extinguisher, and if it is not there, you should cover the burning electric scooter with a blanket to prevent air from getting inside. If the scooter catches fire on the street, it should be sprinkled with sand or earth. If it was not possible to detect the fire on your own, they emphasize in the department, you need to move to a safe distance and wait for the help of services.
