Physicians, especially surgeons, traumatologists, and resuscitators, are pushed into alcohol addiction by the constant stress and jobs that put pressure on the psyche with severe injuries and injuries. This was told to socialbites.ca by a psychiatrist-narcologist, professor of RUDN University Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Pathology, Doctor of Medical Sciences Yuri Sivolap.
“Let’s take a doctor with a maximum load – a resuscitator or a surgeon. It worked one day, except for those days, it probably stood on the operating table for 11 hours. The hardest physical work. He’s already changed, not on duty, but then a broken girl was brought to the emergency room and he began to operate on her, it takes several hours. He comes home at lunch, goes to bed, gets up in the evening – he is under severe stress, he is not yet dead. He takes a whiskey and pours it. This is an overloaded man. This is how his relationship with alcohol begins,” he explained.
Sivolap added that the inevitability of regular work with severe injuries and injuries and the death of patients are also a serious stress factor and that doctors are trying to cope with this stress with the help of alcohol. And even the fact that doctors often see the consequences of alcohol addiction in the example of patients does not play a significant role.
“No amount of information can protect against this. Risk information does not prevent us from entering the risk zone, because we are very organized – we hope nothing bad will happen to us, ”the doctor said.
