A man who had a heart transplant in 1984 died at the age of 80. He set a post-transplant life record. This has been reported daily mail.

Steve Sayer, who died after a short illness, was one of the first people to receive a heart transplant in England. He got his new heart from a young man who was the victim of a motorcycle accident in 1984. The surgery was performed by surgeon Professor Sir Magdy Yacoub and his team at Harefield Hospital in Middlesex.

Steve Sayer devoted his life after transplantation to the promotion of organ donation. Six months after his surgery, he and his wife Chris began fundraising for the British Heart Foundation. For 38 years the couple has helped raise millions of pounds for charity.

“She said this young man had given her his heart and that she now had to take care of him for the rest of her life – and she did,” Ms Sayer said.

The man received another transplant after going on dialysis in 2016. This time the organ (kidney) donor was his wife, now 77 years old. He is survived by two children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
