A study by scientists from Indiana University shows that women’s sexual desire increases by 60% during the second trimester of pregnancy (14 to 26 weeks). work of scientists published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Researchers asked more than 237 pregnant women aged 18-22 how often they had sex each week of their pregnancy.
“Our results suggest that pregnancy and sexual intercourse frequency have a more complex relationship than previously thought,” the researchers said.
For many pregnant women, the first trimester of pregnancy – from 0 to 13 weeks – is characterized by symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, constipation, cramps and others.
However, most of these symptoms disappear during the second trimester. Women feel more energetic and their libido increases, which leads couples to continue their sex lives.
The researchers found that throughout pregnancy, the frequency of sexual intercourse during the first trimester generally decreases by 18% each week.
Afterwards, it increased by about 3% each week from 11 to 21 weeks. But from 22 weeks to birth, the likelihood of sexual intercourse decreased steadily (by 6% per week).
