‘Body closure’ is presented as the first Japanese video art exhibition held in the province of Alicante. The exhibition showcases the work of Mai Endo and Aya Momose, two of the most well-known Japanese video artists in the queer/feminist context in Japan today.

‘Body closure’ is the result of a dialogue between artists and curator Cayetano Limorte around a common concern: the heteronormative regime of sexual difference prevailing in patriarchal societies both in the East and the West. A dialogue over time, from the use of language as a means of control of the gender/gender system to the use of images in the context of art history and the legitimating power of gender stereotypes.

The exhibition consists of five video artworks recently created by artists Mai Endo and Aya Momose. ‘Resembling Snake 3: River’ (2020) by Mai Endo, ‘La Toilette’ (2017) by Mai Endo and ‘Born to Die’ (2020) by Aya Momose and two co-created tracks ‘Love Condition I & II’ ‘ (2020) and this time will be shown for the first time outside of Japan.
