Von der Leyen sees limiting air conditioning and heating as “smart”

President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyentoday congratulated European Union (EU) countries such as Spain, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy or Bulgaria for taking “smart” measures such as limiting air conditioning or heating in their energy saving plans.

“Across the EU, smart ways to save energy are being promoted. For example, slightly higher temperatures for air conditioning bring impressive results. It’s good that Member States are liking it” Spain, Czech Republic or Slovenia “Include such measures in your plans,” he said.

The Community Executive Chairman accompanied his comment with a diagram showing that turning on the air conditioner one degree above the temperature at which it would normally turn on in the services sector would allow the EU to save 9.2 terawatt-hours of electricity. Equivalent to the annual consumption of a country like Malta.
