The commander of the combined forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, said in his social networks that fortified areas were created in northern Ukraine to increase the defense capacity of the Ukrainian army.

Naev said that the greatest attention is paid to locations as close to the state border as possible.

“The troops deployed there are building defensive positions in a fairly short time and taking measures to increase their stability,” he wrote.

In addition, the lieutenant general claims that the mining of the region “has significant opportunities to repel the attack” on approaching Ukrainian defensive positions.

Earlier it was reported that engineering, tank units and anti-tank artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine held extensive exercises in the Kherson region, not far from the Crimea. According to Sergei Naev, the main combat task was to quickly move the anti-tank reserve to the combat deployment location and set up engineering and digging group minefields.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to organize a military special operation in Ukraine in response to a request for assistance from the heads of the LPR and DPR.

The decision to run the operation was the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
