Urologist Seregin explained which kidney stones are the most dangerous

Small kidney stones are more dangerous and more unpredictable than large ones – they can move and block the urinary tract, leading to renal colic and requiring immediate medical attention. Igor Seregin, a urologist at Botkin Hospital, Candidate of Medical Sciences, told socialbites.ca about this.

“Even urologists have this view: stones are like dogs – the smaller the more furious. Because more serious complications can arise from a small stone, a coral-like stone that covers the entire kidney and does not escape anywhere. And the little one can move, get into the ureter and block it, disrupting the urine output, causing renal colic, ”said Dr.

Seregin added that urolithiasis may be asymptomatic for a long time and stones may be discovered incidentally during ultrasound or CT scan for another reason. For example, if the stone in the kidney is large, immobile and does not cause a violation of urine output, pain and other symptoms may be absent at all.

For more information on the age at which kidney stones occur most often and what happens if urolithiasis is not treated, see material “socialbites.ca”.
