Enthusiastic cat lovers often misbehave with them. The authors conclude these articlePublished in Scientific Reports.

To find out, the scientists conducted an experiment with 120 volunteers who had to spend five minutes in the company of three cats. People were asked to behave as they usually treat pets at home. Additionally, they were asked to fill out a questionnaire about their relationship with cats, including questions about conscientiousness, extroversion, neuroticism, and openness.

It turns out that enthusiastic and experienced cat owners are more likely to touch sensitive areas of the cat’s body, such as the base of its tail or stomach. Additionally, people who owned multiple cats or lived with cats for a long time were less likely to let their pets choose how they wanted to interact with their owners, and often touched their tail, paws, and sensitive areas of the back. Least preferred parts are the body.

Neurotics and elderly people most often tried to control cats, extroverts began to come into contact with animals more often. The cats were best treated and their needs met by those who met them on the job.
