Scientists filmed killer whales hunting sharks for the first time

Scientists managed to document the attack of killer whales on 18-meter whale sharks – marine predators attack each other, and this is the first case documented by scientists. The publication reports that Independent.

Whale sharks, typically reaching lengths of 18-20 meters, are among the largest fish in the world’s oceans, and killer whales sometimes prey on these sharks, but these attacks rarely occur in front of humans.

Unique images of killer whales hunting sharks were taken in the southern Gulf of California. In total, four attacks were filmed; three of them involved a male killer whale named Montezuma attacking sharks. The last attack was carried out by the women seen next to Montezuma.

The research results will be published in the journal Frontiers in Marine Science.
