A rescue team began moving a family of killer whales stranded in a Kamchatka estuary into its mouth so they could reach the open sea. This was reported by RIA Novosti Head of Sobolevsky district Andrey Vorovsky.
On Wednesday morning, a group of killer whales entered the estuary in the village of Ustyevoye. The bottom of the estuary was covered with silt, making access for equipment difficult. All four killer whales stranded at low tide survived, Vorovsky said. Throughout the day, the animals were watered in anticipation of the tide, and dozens of volunteers, GIMS inspectors and local rescuers worked on site to manually move the animals to deeper areas. Late Wednesday, the orcas were able to swim on their own, accompanied by a boat. They left the shallow waters and headed towards the open sea.
