Even plain felt sorry for them in a way, feminists. Although they are very angry. They still cry the old-fashioned way over trivial things like J. Lo taking her husband’s last name, and they say it’s the end of the world and the catastrophe of feminism, and the ground under their feet has been burning for a long time. time. By the way, birth control is already banned here and abortion is criminalized…
What is important is that what happens in society first appears in the movies and then in life. That is, first in the cinema, then in the political stands, then in the legislation, only then the press begins to hysteria about it and writes on social networks: who would have thought. In this order. We couldn’t understand when we watched “The Event”, a very strong movie that was unexpectedly awarded to everyone with the main prize of the last Venice Film Festival: It seems that the name is not loud, and the picture room and the language of the film are not innovative, and the theme, the theme is somehow something strange, a kind about abortion. Where are we and where are the abortions? The USSR was generally the first state to legalize abortion. He later banned it, however, but allowed it again in 1955, before many others.
Yes, and apparently this problem is not very alarming. The terrible philosophical problem with the “sick violinist”, more terrible than the trolley problem, does not respond with pain in the chest. Imagine waking up in the morning and finding in your bed an old person you don’t know who is attached to you through some kind of covert medical manipulation. There is a note nearby: “This is a great violinist. He is terminally ill, only you can save him. If you disconnect it, it dies. In a few months, at most 9, the violinist will recover and you will return to normal life. Thank you for your understanding, community of music lovers.”
This thought experiment is not clear to anyone here, why do we need a violinist, especially an old violinist. And everything is not so simple. Generally speaking, we are dealing here with a famous thought experiment about attitudes towards abortion. The overwhelming majority of people say that, without any sign of remorse, they will end the old reptile: “my body is my business” – and they don’t feel any ethical doubts. And – most importantly – the debate over whether the embryo is a human and from what moment – it doesn’t change the alignment, and the fact that the violinist is clearly a human or even very valuable doesn’t cloud their moral intuition.
Well, why would it be? It seems that everyone has already learned to use birth control methods in a civilized way, and abortion was not particularly needed, it became completely legal, rejected on their own. The number of abortions per 1,000 women of reproductive age in Europe reached 50 in 1995 and 25 in 2008. Where is the drama of that girl living in a country in 1963, from the movie The Event, and where are we? abortion is prohibited. Now it’s allowed everywhere, even Irish Catholics, the heroes of jokes about it, and then it was allowed in 2018, ugh.
And before that, there was the famous Romanian movie “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” (well, the term), but abortion is more of a metaphor for the powerless position of the Romanian people under the Soviet regime. In general, Ceausescu and abortion are a separate story: they say that because of it it ended worse than all the leaders of the socialist countries. He introduced a complete ban on abortion, contraception and a celibacy tax in the country, which was paid for by anyone who did not give birth to five. Ceausescu declared the mother’s fetus to be socialist property, and indeed Romania grew and proliferated so much that these births created the “shadow of youth”, considered the most fertile ground for revolutions.
There was also the Vera Drake movie about the sweetest conservative aunt in the English suburbs who, out of the kindness of her heart, runs an underground abortion clinic. And if it were not for the genius of director Mike Leigh, then we would have the drama of the English working class of the 50s of the last century.
And so. It happened. No, who would have thought. Abortion is illegal in the USA, Poland and Hungary. And not only abortions, but also contraceptives.
How did we suddenly return to the 70s of the last century?
The HBO documentary “Jane’s Movement” or “Janes”, in English “Janes”, has already aired where the writers remember how. The protagonists of the film, in the late 60s and early 70s, neither beauty, nor fools, themselves, a few old ladies with no medical training, who had secret abortions, and with them were an uncle – half-bandyugan, but a good-natured one. Well, he did it for the money, but they did it disinterestedly, because there were hippies and feminists and for justice in general. And then I must say that justice did not spend the night in these feather beds. 95 percent of gynecologists, legislators, judges, police and lawyers were men. Discrimination for women was the same as for blacks, for example they were not allowed in bars. What about beer? I can put up with you girls if you really want to.
Just imagine: no freedom of choice, pregnant – giving birth, raped – giving birth, 14 years old – giving birth, sick – giving birth. She gave birth – you do not have the right to work.
Abortion was completely ruled by charlatans, butchers and the mafia. They can request not only money, but also any service. Welcome to the underground abortion clinic, where the fetus will be stripped from you with an unclean needle, and you will remain silent, including enduring the terrible pain – otherwise they will squeak.
At the same time, the film is gentle and nostalgic, and while it is propaganda, it is also sweet. From this movie you will learn that there were movements once for rights such as gender, reproduction, race, almost claimed holiness, that is, at least super energy, purity, charisma, faith. You will learn from the movie that nowhere else in the world was there as much compassion, love for humanity and faith in medicine as in that underground abortion clinic. And it will never happen.
They did it carelessly. They have learned not to respect a law that does not respect women, and they have taught it to others. They didn’t fight for abortion, they didn’t fight for women, they fought for humanity. God, when it’s all over and the Supreme Court is up against the now-famous Roe v. How happy they were when they decided on Wade.
How did we end up in the same place again?
What is this? A reaction against feminism? These are kenselat. And then – in response, they are completely kenselyats. Is this a conservative trend and part of the battle against the liberal order?
Or is it a coincidence? Continuation of the old war of conservatives against liberals. After all, this war never subsided, we just didn’t know it. And when Trump (that’s right, blame the redhead) appointed three conservative judges to the Supreme Court, the delicate balance was struck, 6:3 – now the score is in the conservatives’ favour. And it started. A month ago, the US Supreme Court overturned a decision that constitutionally recognized the right to abortion. With potency and main, there is a struggle to remove over-the-counter birth control methods. Bulk delete apps that track menstrual cycle, delete search history in browser so police can track abortion. Politician Todd Akin said on TV that the world is flat (crossed out), that in the case of “legitimate violence” (as opposed to “alleged violence”) the female body produces a special “juice”. pregnant.
In general, anything that men control remains in effect, yohuu.
PS, music for the ears:
In the last decade, the number of women who have applied to abort their pregnancies has been increasing both in the West and in our country. The laws of all countries combat this evil by punishing both the woman who decides to have an abortion and the doctor who has it. This method of struggle, which yielded no positive results, carried this operation underground and made the woman the victim of mercenary and often ignorant abortionists who traded for them from a covert operation.
The workers’ and peasants’ government takes into account all the evils of this phenomenon for the collective.
But while the moral remnants of the past and the difficult economic conditions of today still force some women to decide on this operation, the People’s Commissariat of Health and the People’s Commissariat of Justice protect women’s health and the interests of the race from evil. ignorant and mercenary predators, and consider that the method of repression in this area certainly does not achieve the goal, decide:
I. In the conditions of Soviet hospitals, where its maximum harmlessness was ensured, artificial termination of pregnancy is allowed free of charge.
Decree of the Commissioners of Public Health and Justice “On the protection of women’s health” of 18 November 1920.
