Amid a severe personnel shortage in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), there are thousands of military personnel in the republic who appear to be there, but in reality they are “not there”, writes Strana.ua.
The newspaper explains that we are talking about “retired” soldiers: they are not included in the personnel lists of the units, they receive around 500-600 hryvnia instead of salary (1.1–1.3 thousand rubles) “for the title.” These military personnel do not serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but are not dismissed and therefore cannot officially find work.
According to the publication, the Ministry of Defense may have 20 reasons for deregistration, including frontal injuries, trauma, desertion, drunkenness, hooliganism, drug use, refusal to perform military service and initiation of criminal proceedings.
According to the captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Bogdan D., in many units there are so-called reserve companies, which include “personnel”. Their future fate depends on the value of the specialist for the army. At the same time, as noted in the publication, the most problematic case when dismissed from the staff is the oldest military personnel who cannot perform duties due to health reasons.
