He was somewhat influenced by Impressionism and more obviously by Paul Gauguin. Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) was a painter characterized by his own characteristics portraits of naked womenIt was challenging for the time and he did not shy away from a more profitable job: advertising illustration.

Like any good ‘biography’, ‘The Painter Bonnard and His Muse’ dissects the artistic form, Conflicting relationship with MarieThe humble class girl he falls in love with and who changes her name to Marthe to appear more aristocratic.

Pierre and Marthe, played by Vincent Macaigne and Cécile de France, continue one of these passionate and sometimes self-destructive relationshipsseparations and reconciliations, madness and estrangements.
