Sol y Mar Hotels signs agreement with social start-up gravitational wave Extracting about 6 tons of plastic from the Mediterranean. For every reservation made on Sol y Mar Hotels websites, 1 kg of plastic will be removed and recycled, which would mean about 6 tons or the equivalent of 1 million plastic bags or 375,000 bottles being cleaned in the Mediterranean.
This agreement stems from Sol y Mar Hotels chain’s firm commitment to sustainability as one of its pillars for the future, which will also involve its customers in this action. Its hotels have recently been recognized and certified by Bioscore, achieving a sustainability rating of 70%, and these efforts are continually being expanded.
Amaia Rodriguez, CEO of Gravity Wavestates “Ocean sustainability is an important form of activity for the hospitality industry in today’s market. Such hotels not only distinguish themselves from other hotels by removing plastic from the sea, but also contribute to reducing pollution in the Mediterranean, preserving its biodiversity and maintaining a sustainable and quality”. Keeping our seas and beaches clean is essential if we want to continue our tourism.
On your own behalf Sergio Baudot, Sales and Marketing Director of Sol y Mar Hotels comments “#YAESHORA, we are doing something for the Mediterranean, as the campaign of this deal shows. Sol y Mar Hotels’ commitment is to sustainability and corporate social responsibility, which is a vital part of our company.”
Sol y Mar Hotels and its steadfast commitment to addressing plastic pollution are not only reflected in this agreement. In recent years, Zincir has carried out various corporate social responsibility activities in this area. The agreement signed with Auara stands out as a social company dedicated to the sale of water bottles (100% social and 100% recycled), a requirement for obtaining the Bioscore Certification, and reducing the use of plastic in all parts of the chain.
The same sustainability and recycling line will be reflected in the new hotel the chain will open on the beach of Benicàssim next summer in 2024, which will be the first hotel in Spain to hold a Well Construction Certificate.
