Officials from the western Mexican state of Michoacán reported the incident. Killing of 12 people in different attacks It was committed this Monday by alleged assassins in the state’s five municipalities.
The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that three of the victims were men shot and killed in a bar called “El Retén de Lupita” in the municipality of Cojumatlán, adjacent to the neighboring state of Jalisco.
Meanwhile, the tortured and shot bodies of three men and a woman were found on the side of the highway connecting the municipalities of Villamar and Jiquilpan, near the town known as “Emiliano Zapata”, 40 kilometers from Cojumatlán.
On the other hand, in the municipality of Jiquilpan, a man died after being shot by supposed assassins while walking in the “Francisco Sarabia” community.
In addition, gunmen shot and killed a man and a woman near the town of San Juan Tararameo, in the municipality of Cuitzeo, near the shores of Lake Cuitzeo.
Authorities also reported that the bodies of two men with torture marks and gunshot wounds were found in a home in the Vista Bella neighborhood of Morelia, Michoacán’s capital.
So far this year, Michoacán has recorded a total of 1,432 violent murders. It is estimated that various drug trafficking organizations operating in the state are involved in criminal activities. Drug cartels identified by Michoacán authorities include the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), La Nueva Familia Michoacana, also known as Cárteles Unidos and operating with its armed wing ‘Los Viagras’, Los Knights Templar, The (former) Michoacán Family, Pueblos Unidos and Los Correa Cartel.
