A research, knowledge transfer and innovation project has been developed within the framework of the subject “Sectors in the Creative Industries” of the Master’s Degree in Communication and Creative Industries (Comincrea) of the UA, from the Headquarters of the University of Alicante in Torrevieja. An educational event from a musical, historical and documentary point of view around the Torrevieja International Habaneras and Polyphonics Competition (CIHPT), coinciding with the 70th anniversary commemoration of this cultural event declared to be of international tourist interest.
The main results of the project are being announced with the exhibition “Among the Tattooed Waves”, which will be opened on Friday, June 28 at 19:00 at the Vista Exhibition Hall, with pre-registration and while the quota is full. Located at Alegre de Torrevieja, Paseo Vista Alegre, 10.
At the opening of the exhibition you can enjoy a concert of classical habaneras, as well as a special tribute to maestro Ricardo Lafuente Aguado, performed by soprano Nuria Maddaloni; Concepción Pérez Boj, soprano; Cora Sánchez Boj, mezzo-soprano; Francisco Moreno, tenor and Jorge Carrasco Juárez, piano.
Purpose, exposure and composition
The main objective of the project has been to recover and disseminate the cultural wealth of Havana and bring it closer to young people, since its history full of passion, nostalgia and tradition has influenced and been influenced by other musical genres and because it is in Torrevieja that this genre has become the symbol of the cultural identity that must survive over time.
The exhibition tour includes the history of the competition, the habanera as a musical genre, the importance of choirs in artistic evolution, CIHPT posters, as well as the premiere of two contemporary habaneras composed specifically for the project, all through a diverse selection of objects, documents and sounds.
The project was led by principal investigator (PI) Jesús Segarra-Saavedra, and musical direction was assumed by Jorge Carrasco Juárez, professor of piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Victoria Eugenia, Granada. The teachers of the subject, Enric Mira-Pastor, Vicente García-Escrivá, Christian Fortanet-Van-Assendelft-de-Coningh and Claudia Ripoll-Martínez, participated, as well as students of the same Kevin Desbrueres, Ángela Escolano Gálvez, Estela González Barrachina, Wissam Khodja, Zoé Le Garrec, Yuxin Li, Jeanne Morales, Yoleidys Moreno Torregroza, Rigoberto Otaño Milian, Jimena Párez Bazzano, María Rodríguez Lozano, Bruna Scaratti Selau and Jessica del Pilar Soler Herrera. The professor of the subject “Strategic planning of communication in the creative industries”, Inés Leal-Rico, also participated.
