Latvian Cabinet of Ministers approved the dismantling of 69 military monuments from the times of the USSR, the portal reports Delphi.

Monuments of the Soviet wars are located throughout the country. Monuments to be demolished included the monument in Victory Park in Riga, the memorials to Red Army soldiers in Liepaja, Rezekne and Daugavpils.

In June, a law came into force in Latvia allowing the dismantling of all symbols glorifying the USSR and giving the Council of Ministers the right to draw up lists of monuments to be demolished.

Earlier, it was reported that the monument to the Soviet soldiers in Riga will be built. ripped off until November 15th.

Dismantling will be carried out at the expense of donations from individuals and legal entities and funds from state and municipal budgets.

Prior to that, the Latvian Ministry of Defense spoke about intent. to delay Monument to Soviet soldiers in Rudbarzhi, where 137 dead Soviet soldiers were buried in the sister cemetery of the Nikratses parish.
