A criminal case was opened against the residents of the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic (KBR) who beat up the residents of the town of Tyrnyauz as part of the “Sharia patrol”. This was reported Telegram channel Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic.

Ten residents of the Kabardino-Balkaria region, aged between 26 and 54, were detained by SOBR and OMON soldiers on suspicion of forming and participating in an extremist community.

The investigation revealed that the organizer of the group was a 40-year-old resident of Tyrnyauz, who recruited nine townspeople into the criminal community in March 2017.

Together, they found citizens who they felt their behavior and lifestyle did not conform to their “religious extremist beliefs,” subjected them to psychological pressure and caused bodily harm, and beat them with sticks.

The suspects committed illegal acts against 14 residents. According to investigators, the criminal group operated until November 2023.
