The color of urine is one of the main indicators of the state of the urinary system. Normally, the color of urine should be light yellow, if the urine acquires a brown or reddish hue, this indicates the presence of urological diseases, Alexander Belopolsky, urologist at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of the Federal Budgetary Institution CMD Sevastopol, Center for Molecular Diagnostics, Rospotrebnadzor, told socialbites.ca.
“Changes in urine color are characteristic of many urological diseases: urolithiasis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, prostatitis, sexually transmitted infections, urinary tract infections. In diseases such as cystitis, the color of the urine becomes dark yellow or cloudy; in urolithiasis, the urine darkens, thickens with an admixture of blood, that is, in infectious diseases it has a reddish or red color; in nature (sexually transmitted infections, urinary tract infections) – the color of the urine is brown or dark brown,” the doctor explained.
In addition, the color of the urine may change due to taking certain medications or not drinking enough fluids. In this case, a slight darkening of the urine color may be considered normal.
According to the specialist, in other cases, if the color of urine changes, it is necessary to consult a urologist for timely diagnosis and identification of the causes. You may also need consultations with related specialists: a gynecologist and an endocrinologist.
“As a rule, the approach to treatment is individual and depends on both the degree of damage to the urinary system and many other factors. Treatment is prescribed based on the results of the examination. There are special herbal-based urological preparations and special therapy with chemicals to normalize the act of urination, urine color, as well as physiotherapeutic methods of treatment,” the doctor said.
