Scientific studies have not confirmed the benefits of easily digestible milk (which contains a special A2 form of casein protein). Russian manufacturers say that it is more beneficial for the heart, immune system and intestines. Olga Chukhacheva, endocrinologist and nutritionist at the DocMed network of evidence-based medicine clinics, told socialbites.ca.
“Normal milk contains two types of β-casein proteins: A1 and A2. It was previously believed that the A1 form increases the risk of developing diabetes, some autoimmune diseases and coronary heart disease. For this reason, A2 milk was created that does not contain the “harmful” form of casein. But there is no scientific evidence of its benefits,” said the doctor.
In 2005, the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a review in which the author analyzed 70 literature sources on the health effects of the A1 and A2 forms of casein.
“The only study confirming the link of the A1 form of the protein to coronary heart disease was of poor quality. The remaining animal experiments did not confirm the hypothesis,” Chukhacheva explained.
The doctor concluded that there was no need to switch from regular milk to A2 milk due to the lack of scientific evidence to date.
