A zoo in Indonesia has bred many young Komodo dragons. About informs AFP agency.
Komodo dragons are the largest lizards living on earth. In nature, they live only in the Indonesian Komodo National Park. According to experts, there are 3,458 individuals of this species left in the wild, and therefore it is considered endangered. These reptiles can reach three meters in length and weigh up to 90 kilograms. Monitor lizards lead a predatory lifestyle and in some cases can threaten humans, but are on the verge of extinction due to habitat destruction.
Zoo officials in the city of Surabaya, however, managed to remove 29 monitor lizards from their incubators between February and March. “We have conditions that reflect the Komodo’s natural habitat, including humidity and temperature,” zoo director Chairul Anwar told AFP.
Surabaya Zoo has 134 Komodo dragons, the largest population outside of its natural habitat.
