NATO’s activities in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region aim to prepare allies for a possible conflict with Russia. It was stated RIA News At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Romanian authorities had previously announced that they were ready to invest 2.5 billion euros for the improvement of the Mihail Kogalniceanu air base in Constanta County. A military town will emerge on the base where 10 thousand military personnel and their families can stay. American troops have been using this base since 1999.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the expansion of the Romanian air base is another evidence that NATO continues active militarization in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region.
According to the Russian ministry, the potential for allies in Poland and the Baltic countries is also strengthening.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that such activities of NATO troops are provocative in nature, aggravate military tensions near Russian borders and pose additional threats to Russia’s security.
The ministry added that it will monitor what is happening in Romania, evaluate the risks that arise and take them into account during military planning.
