British scientists from the University of Liverpool have discovered that fridge magnets brought back from travels are an important source of pleasant memories, helping people relive beautiful travel experiences. The study was published in the scientific journal magazine Annals of Tourism Research (ATM).
Experts interviewed 19 people, and most of them confirmed that visible souvenirs remind them of happy moments and new places. Over time, some magnets can evoke stronger emotions and remind you of friends or loved ones who are no longer with you.
According to scientists, interview participants noted that one refrigerator magnet can replace dozens of vacation photos.
“Our research has shown that fridge magnets, although commonplace, can evoke memories of a past holiday better than many other tourist souvenirs.
It was also interesting to find how refrigerator magnets helped some people forget about the bad times in their lives and remind them of the good times,” said study co-author Dr. John Byrom.
