According to him, he decided to explore the forest near his campus located in the Iquitos area and found a frog of the genus Rhinella. After examining the individuals more closely, Zamora noticed that they had a different head and body shape than other Rhinella frogs.
He and his colleagues then analyzed the anatomy and DNA of the two amphibians and determined that they belonged to two previously unknown species. Researchers named them Rhinella unapensis and Rhinella angeli. Both frogs look like fallen leaves – this disguise allows them to survive on the Amazonian plains.
It is stated that other Rhinella frog species are also found in this region.
