American dietitian and sports nutritionist Jess Hillard said According to the Daily Mail, a persistent feeling of coldness may indicate a lack of iodine in the body.

The specialist explained that iodine is involved in the production of thyroid hormone – thyroxine. Thyroxine regulates metabolism – water-salt, protein, fat and carbohydrates. Iodine also supports normal temperature exchange in the body and the functioning of the cardiovascular system. Lack of this nutritional component leads to insufficient activity of the thyroid gland and therefore a constant feeling of coldness.

An underactive thyroid gland, or hypothyroidism, can also cause weight gain, fatigue, apathy, dry skin, and a “goiter,” a swelling in the front of the neck.

According to the doctor, iodine deficiency in the body can be compensated by correcting the diet. Sources of iodine include eggs, shellfish, dairy products and seaweed. The expert added that iodine is not synthesized in the body, so correct eating habits are very important.
