The Sun slammed into Earth with its strongest geomagnetic storm since 2017, following the strongest Category X double explosion on March 23. This has been reported portal Spaceweather.com.

According to astronomical observations, the magnitude of the double explosion on the Sun was 1.1. It launched a huge cloud of plasma and radiation (a coronal mass ejection (CME)) into space. It hit our planet’s magnetic field, weakening it for a while. At its peak, the geomagnetic storm reached G4 status, second to last on the power scale.

The impact of the CME caused solar radiation to penetrate deeper than normal into the atmosphere, causing aurora borealis over Australia and New Zealand. A phenomenon known as “STEVE” has also been observed over Alaska; a strong increase in the rate of thermal radiation, which appears as a long streak of light in the sky.

Category X eruptions become much more common during the upcoming solar maximum, the peak of 11 years of solar activity. Six X-class explosions have been recorded on the Sun since the beginning of 2024, with 12 in all of 2023.

Earlier astronomers was recorded X-ray auroras on Mercury after a solar flare.
