French Ministry of Defense and EDF agreed on the production of radioactive substances

The French Ministry of Armed Forces and the energy company Electricite de France (EDF) signed an agreement for the production of the radioactive isotope tritium. This was reported by TASS referring to the republic’s defense ministry.

“The aim is to use the power of Civo (a nuclear power plant in Western France) to irradiate lithium-containing materials in the reactors,” the statement said.

In the future, these materials will be used to produce tritium “necessary for deterrent weapons”.

According to the Ministry of Defense, such cooperation was planned in the 1990s.
