Igor Lyapunov, Rostelecom’s vice president for information security and general director of Rostelecom-Solar, said that on the first day of the Russian presidential elections, there were 8 times more attacks on the remote electronic voting system (DEG) than in 2023.
“On March 15, the first day of the elections, more than 90 thousand cyber attacks were carried out on the DEG, State Services and Central Election Commission portal, all attacks were repelled,” he said.
According to him, cyber attacks are recorded from different parts of the world.
“We see attacks from Ukraine, Western European and North American IP addresses, and we understand from the professionalism of the cyber attacks that the most professional groups are working,” he added.
Commenting on a short-term failure in the functioning of the DEG in the first hours of the voting on March 15, the head of the department of Rostelecom PJSC, TIC DEG operator Dmitry Kuznetsov noted that this was caused by a natural load. system.
“With the opening of sites according to Moscow time, several million users tried to use the resource, which led to a short-term freeze,” he said.
According to EdgeCenter General Manager Mikhail Shurygin, Chairman of the ROCIT Cloud Technologies, Hosting and Information Security Commission, unfriendly states are creating private armies to attack Russia.
“It doesn’t matter whether the capacity is taken abroad or in Russia, with their help a huge load is created on the sites, on the voting system. This load interferes with the work and can even completely interrupt it,” Shurygin explained.
Let us remind you that presidential elections in Russia will be held between March 15-17.
