The remote electronic voting system (DEG) is not new for Russian voters. ROCIT expert Ilya Massukh, head of the Import Substitution Competence Center in the Field of ICT, reminded this.
According to him, it has already been used at various stages of elections and has improved during this time. At the same time, he emphasized that the DEG system is built on three principles: anonymity, the impossibility of changing the voting results and the ability to monitor the process by observers and ordinary citizens.
“These three principles have evolved since the first electronic voting was introduced. The expert noted that from the perspective of remote electronic voting, it is the absolute leader in the world in the interaction between the state and society.
He emphasized that the DEG system will be used for the first time in voting in the Presidential elections this year. According to him, quite a large number of regions will use this voting method.
“The system is based on cryptographic algorithms that encrypt user interactions and voices, so the problem is solved in terms of security,” Massukh added.
According to him, the DEG system is absolutely ready to hold presidential elections. He explained that it has gone through various stages of testing at the federal level.
Ilya Massukh also explained that the Moscow system differs slightly from the federal system in terms of implementation, but is also similar to it in three basic principles. According to him, he was also tested.
“Testing at the federal level lasted several days. This is due to the large number of commissions. This year Kamchatka and Kaliningrad are participating in electronic voting, so you must understand that these are 11 time zones. But in terms of security, the system is ready and the technology is also ready,” noted the ROCIT expert.
At the same time, Massukh believes that Russia’s ill-wishers will try to have a destructive impact on the DEG, so serious attention is paid to information security.
Presidential elections in Russia will be held between 15-17 March 2024. It will be possible to vote in the presidential elections at the polls and online. Four candidates will compete for the presidency for the first time since 2008.
