The majority (97%) of all visits to veterinarians are made by cat and dog owners. Only 3% of requests are for exotic animals, primarily chinchillas, rats and baby birds. This is demonstrated by the joint work of the services Kot Zdorov and SBER EAPTEKA, the results of which were reviewed by socialbites.ca.
According to Zhanna Kashtanova, chief veterinarian of the service “Cat Health”, pets are conventionally divided into “cats and dogs” and “exotic species”. There is also a conditional division within the group of exotic species into “rodents and lagomorphs”, “ornamental birds”, “ferrets”, “reptiles and amphibians” and “circus and zoo animals”.
24% of requests from exotic pet owners relate to various care-related details, and 18% relate to behavioral problems. Additionally, the most frequently asked queries include dermatology (30%) and gastrointestinal system diseases (22%). 6 percent are injured and are being treated.
The main requests for dogs come from dermatology (41%) and gastroenterology (34%). Cat owners most frequently encounter health problems in their pets, such as urinary system (38%) and gastrointestinal system diseases, which account for 38% of the requests.
This confirms the sales statistics of SBER EAPTEKA in the category of veterinary products for the treatment of the gastrointestinal tract. The demand for these drugs in 2023 increased by 6.5% compared to 2022. At the same time, the highest sales growth rates in physical terms (number of packages) across the network in 2023 were recorded in wound healing medicines for animals, over 560%. In the first two months of 2024, sales in the category of drugs for the treatment of genitourinary system diseases increased by 25% compared to the same period last year, and in the category of drugs for the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in animals, sales increased by 107%.
Grooming questions are often the reason for contacting veterinarians. More than 26% of requests for exotic animals relate to the specifics of nutrition, while 23% are general questions, for example, how to choose the right terrarium or how to set up the cage.
15% of surveys among cat owners are about the problem of dirty behavior. Preventive measures (vaccinations, treatments) concern 13% and nutrition concerns 33%. Dog owners communicate about eating disorders in their pets – 11%, preventive measures (vaccination and treatment) – 35%, nutrition – 29%.
