Once upon a time, the appearance of non-stick cookware on the market became a real sensation. However, like other kitchen utensils, it has its own lifespan and requires proper care. Dmitry Bystrov, associate professor at the Department of Food Industry, Hospitality and Service at ROSBIOTECH University, told socialbites.ca.
“The non-stick coating will wear and scratch over time. A number of studies have shown that insoluble microparticles can enter the body through chips. “And Teflon frying pans, for example – this is the most popular non-stick coating – may contain perfluorooctanoic acid, a stable compound that can accumulate in the body and practically does not decompose in the environment,” he explained.
To minimize the risk, you should choose safer, nonstick-coated cookware, according to Bystrov.
“For example, ceramic or titanium based. But even such utensils must be replaced immediately if cracks, scratches or chips appear,” the expert concluded.
