Doctors in Cheboksary removed a woman’s 40-centimeter teratoma tumor containing teeth and hair. This situation was reported at the press center Cumhuriyet Clinical Oncology Dispensary.
The woman went to the hospital with complaints of shortness of breath, constipation, weakness and a significant growth in the abdominal area. Doctors suspected ovarian cancer and discovered a large tumor during the examination. The tumor displaced and compressed the surrounding organs, disrupting their functions, and also fed from large vessels, any damage threatened serious blood loss.
The operation to remove the tumor, which covered the entire abdominal cavity, took more than two hours. Doctors found fatty tissue, hair and teeth in the tumor.
“A mature teratoma is a benign tumor formed from the primordia of embryonic tissue. The disease very rarely reaches gigantic proportions, as in our patient. In most cases, such tumors are detected in the early stages of development, when organ-sparing, minimally invasive surgical methods can be used,” explained Dmitry Glyakin, head of the department of gynecological oncology.
