American scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have proposed a new way to combat Alzheimer’s disease using stimulation of a certain frequency. This activates the glymphatic system, which is the most important channel for removing waste from the organ. Research published in scientific journals magazine Nature.

Alzheimer’s disease represents one of the most challenging problems in the field of neurodegenerative diseases. It is a progressive disease characterized by memory and cognitive decline that has a profound impact on the lives of patients and their families.

Alzheimer’s pathology is based on two key elements: beta-amyloid plaques and tau tangles. Amyloid beta is a protein that can accumulate in the spaces between nerve cells, forming plaques that are thought to disrupt cell function. Tau is a protein that stabilizes microtubules in neurons, but in Alzheimer’s disease, tau proteins become abnormal and form tangles inside cells, leading to further neuronal dysfunction.

A promising approach in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease is 40 Hz gamma sensory stimulation.

The researchers turned their attention to the glymphatic system, a newly discovered network that helps remove waste from the brain in parallel with the lymphatic system in the rest of the body.

They suggested that the glymphatic system may play a key role in the observed reduction in amyloid levels after gamma stimulation. In the experiments, they measured cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow in the brain tissue of mice exposed to 40 Hz stimulation and compared these measurements with measurements in untreated control mice.

The results showed a significant increase in CSF flow through the brain tissue of rodents exposed to gamma rays; This revealed that the glymphatic system plays an active role in the clearance of amyloid proteins.

Previous scientists named A symptom warning of approaching Alzheimer’s disease.
