The development of the GOST standard for school uniforms was in doubt: Rospotrebnadzor criticized the standards proposed by Roskachestvo. The newspaper writes about this “News” with reference to the documentation of the technical committee for standardization.
The development and approval of GOST is impossible without coordination with the committee, Antonina Tsitsulina, head of the committee and president of the Association of Enterprises of the Children’s Products Industry (AIDT), told reporters.
Rospotrebnadzor noted that the proposed standard contains references to outdated or partially canceled GOST standards in Russia. The conceptual apparatus of the new document on school uniforms does not comply with the standards in force at the EAEU level and mandatory in Russia.
For example, the question concerns the technical regulation “On the safety of products intended for children and adolescents”. This document does not include the terms “school uniform”, “garments with standard consumer specifications”, “formal wear” and the relevant requirements for such products. As a result, the proposed standards and technical regulations contradict each other.
Rospotrebnadzor noted that GOST sets unreasonably high values for a number of indicators such as hygroscopicity (moisture permeability), air permeability, breaking load and wear resistance of fabrics. In addition, the standard contains requirements that contradict technical regulations regarding children’s products. For example, school uniforms must be sterilized using disinfectant solutions, while international legislation requires that the products be maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Therefore, the use of this standard may create a risk of conflict between clothing manufacturers, retail chains, consumers and regulatory authorities. Therefore, Rospotrebnadzor did not support the development of GOST.
